The Mysteries of the Rosary
The Rosary is divided into four sets of Mysteries. Each Mystery invites reflection on a specific moment in the life of Christ.
The Joyful Mysteries
I. The Annunciation
This mystery recalls the moment described in the Gospel of Luke (1:26–38), when the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would conceive and bear Jesus, the Son of God.
In the quiet of an ordinary day, a message breaks the stillness of her home. Words are exchanged that cannot be taken back, and Mary gives her consent: “Let it be done to me according to your word.” With that response, the Incarnation begins in history.
Contemplate her freedom and trust before the will of God.
From this moment begins our salvation — a beginning that still unfolds wherever trust answers uncertainty.
II. The Visitation
This mystery recalls the meeting described in the Gospel of Luke (1:39–56), when Mary visited her relative Elizabeth.
Along a long road through hills and settled places, Mary arrives and speaks a simple greeting at the doorway. The house fills with recognition and joy as Elizabeth blesses what God has done.
Reflect on the humility that carries Christ to others.
In this meeting we glimpse our communion — a joy that grows when faith is shared and received.
III. The Nativity
This mystery recalls the birth described in the Gospel of Luke (2:1–20), when Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
In the darkness of night, in a place meant for animals, a child is laid in a manger. Outside, shepherds come in from open fields, drawn toward a light and a message they did not expect.
Consider the humility of God entering the world in poverty and simplicity.
In this child is born our hope — a light that continues to shine in places of hardship and waiting.
IV. The Presentation in the Temple
This mystery recalls the offering described in the Gospel of Luke (2:22–35), when Mary and Joseph presented Jesus in the Temple.
Within the Temple courts, amid stone, incense, and the steady movement of worship, the child is placed into Simeon’s arms. He blesses God and speaks words of promise, and words that carry sorrow.
Recognize the faithfulness that fulfills God’s promises across generations.
Here our redemption is acknowledged — a promise that stands firm through patience and expectation.
V. The Finding in the Temple
This mystery recalls the scene described in the Gospel of Luke (2:41–52), when Mary and Joseph found Jesus in the Temple after searching for Him.
After days of anxious looking through crowds and streets, they find Him seated among teachers, listening and asking questions. In the noise of the city, His calm presence is unexpectedly still.
Attend to the mystery of seeking and being found.
In this search and discovery unfolds our belonging — a reminder that even in confusion and distance, God draws near.
